Quilt # 164 was the last quilt that Neta Dyck of St. Catharines designed, cut and appliqued and quilted.  The name she had chosen for the quilt was “Sunrises”.  She died on December 5, 2016. She set up the frame in her small apartment (where the bed, living room are all one) attached to a long term care facility here in St. Catharines.  She was determined to sew and finish this quilt on her own.  She could not walk anymore and used a walker and wheelchair and I marvelled at what she was able to do in such a tight space but the frame fit over her table and sofa.  I wish I had taken a picture of her doing this but she did not want to be photographed.

Last year her “bunches of grapes” quilt was one of the quilts displayed at the Kitchener City Hall.  She had been part of many quilts sent to the Relief Sale whether she had done them on her own or part of the quilts done by the Maria Martha group at St. Catharines United Mennonite Church.  One of the yoyo quilts auctioned last year at the sale was also totally done by Neta and I remember her excitement when she saw all the yoyos that I had taken in to her.

She was an avid quilter and a solid supporter of the MCC Relief Sale.
