Calvin Jutzi has been a long-time supporter and volunteer at the New Hamburg Mennonite Relief Sale. He recently shared his perspective as a bid-taker in the auctioning of "Threads of Africa" in this podcast episode of Undercurrents.

Why is partnership important to your company?

The company (Calvin) has been involved since 1997 and in 2000 I was able to convince the board that they needed to go digital and use a computer. We provided our system until 2018. This allowed them to track who were the bidders and where they were located. The dynamics of the sale changed. They were able to send notices and information to those bidders. They could also track quilt prices. 

What impact of partnerships do you see in your community? 

We sell mostly commercial equipment and vehicles. As our donations were anonymous, the work that we did was done as it was the right thing to do For MCC. 

What has made you interested in supporting the New Hamburg Mennonite Relief Sale? 

Church history, even though it is one of the best Saturdays for an auction. I wanted to help make it better. I started the Friday evening inside auction. It moved to the outdoors auction when we decided to make the sale mostly New/Outside/Turf/Sport/Camping equipment.

Tell us about some of the projects you’ve worked on and what projects you’re working on now. 

We have been involved with the Aylmer Relief Auction, Rockway Collegiate, Laurentian Hills Christian School, as well as several others.

Where can we see your work in the community?

Even when I retire, I will continue to support MCC's projects as my health and time permits.

What would you like to share with anyone attending the sale?

Please give a little more than you expected. If you are donating your time, buy something. If you are donating an item, come out and help. If you can do neither, they will take cash, and then you will get a tax receipt. Have a good day, mask up and have FUN.
