The pattern for this quilt is called "Dear Jane" because it is based on a quilt made by Jane Austen. In between writing "Pride and Prejudice", revolutionizing the modern novel and inventing the "free indirect speech" narrative style, Austin was an avid quilter. This quilt is also made of William Morris reproduction fabrics. In between designing textiles, founding the Arts and Crafts movement and inventing the concept of "interior designer" as a profession, this quilt is a meeting of two great literary minds with a passion for quilting. As a librarian, imagining these two having a conversation delights me. The applique patterns are from "More William Morris Applique.
