Many Hands Hooked Rug
119
In support of the annual New Hamburg Mennonite Relief quilt auction, this hand-hooked rug was designed by JoAnne Harris, Toronto, Ontario. She adapted two popular quilt blocks, the nine patch and the half-square triangle, as they are ideal for traditional rug hooking.
During 2021 it was not feasible for everyone to get together to hook so the rug design travelled more than 365 km as it went from person to person. With a simple crochet-style hook almost 85,000 loops were pulled up through the linen backing by the following group of rug hookers:
Carol Sweeton, Port Dover, ON
Cheryl Boyd, Waterloo, ON
Cindy Fridenberg, Buffalo, NY
Donna Wright, Baden, ON
Jan Hook, Kitchener, ON
JoAnne Harris, Toronto, ON
Judy Rys, Waterloo, ON
Kay Palmer, Elmira, ON
Pamela Watkins, Paris, ON
Penny Wyatt, Brantford, ON
Resa Lent, Elora, ON
Sharon Coppins, Paris, ON
Susan Dietrich, St. Agatha, ON
Susan Sutherland, Baden, ON
