"Reaching Out" is the result of a challenge to quilters attending the Biennial meetings for Relief Sale Volunteers, held in Akron, PA, in August 2013. The fabrics and size were given by organizers. "Reaching Out" reflects the objectives of MCC. The "bear paw" blocks are the 'hands of friendship" reaching out to those in need. The stripes represent the long roads travelled to bring assistance to the many countries and groups indicated by the surrounding squares of different colours. In the final border, the half-square triangles reflect the partnerships MCC has made, and the plain areas represent the places where assistance will be needed in future.
